WE ARE SEEKING SCI-FI, FANTASY OR HORROR ONE-ACTS
The Offending Shadows Theatre Company (OSTC), located in Los Angeles, California, is looking for short one-act plays (10-30 pages) for our quarterly one-act competition, The O'Shadowfest.
Plays must either be parodies or original works within the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. We will not consider any work that requires rights negotiations. Submissions are currently open until August 24, 2017 for O'Shadowfest 3: In 3D. Plays must be formatted according to standard stage play guidelines (ie Dramatist) and submitted as a pdf document. The required cover page must contain all necessary contact information. Celtx formatting is not acceptable.
Plays must be between 10 and 30 pages. Plays closer to 30 pages than 10 pages are more likely to be accepted (as long as they're also good plays).
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN WRITING YOUR PLAY:
Although we will do our best to produce the best version of your play, set changes between one-acts must be quick and simple, and your tech rehearsal will be one of several on the day you are scheduled to do it. Therefore, please take the following under consideration when creating your one-act:
-Sets should be minimalistic or imagined.
-Lighting cues should be simple and absolutely necessary
-Costumes should be inexpensive and reusable or put together from common clothing or household items
-Stories should be told with as few characters as possible
-Projections and other visual effects are not necessarily available
-Props should be easy to make or find
A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
Writers must live in or near the Los Angeles area, as they will be partially responsible for producing their play. This means casting, directing (or finding a director), arranging rehearsals, and arranging for any props and costumes. Offending Shadows company members are ready and willing to step in as actors, directors and designers. Please make use of them. OSTC is producing the event, including renting the space, providing technicians, advertising and running the house. The time commitment is, at minimum, one weekend night and at least one rehearsal. Plays voted into the final round require one additional weekend night, plus any rehearsals. If you have additional questions, please reach out to us.
O'Shadowfest 3: In 3D will be on September 22-24! Finalist plays are performed on the 24th.
Here's how it works:
Plays are run once either on Friday or Saturday night. The audience votes for the top four plays (so you want to PACK THE HOUSE with your friends and family, right?). These four are run once on Sunday night, and audiences vote for the TOP one-act of the weekend.
The winner receives 10% OF THE HOUSE and an award for BEST ONE ACT.
